Abstract

Luong Minh Cu’s love poetry represents a harmonious synthesis of genuine emotion and intellectual depth, articulated through a rich and nuanced system of poetic tones. This paper approaches tone as a significant poetic and stylistic category, examining three dominant tonal modes in his love poetry: tender and affectionate, heartfelt and confessional, and passionate and determined. The dynamic interaction and fluid movement among these tones contribute to emotional diversity and help shape the distinctive style of Luong Minh Cu’s love poetry. Through an analysis of poetic tone, the study demonstrates that Luong Minh Cu’s love poetry goes beyond the expression of personal emotions to reflect the spiritual life of individuals within specific historical and social contexts. Love in his poems is portrayed as both intimate and romantic, while being closely intertwined with ideals, a sense of responsibility, and patriotic sentiment. This integration of the lyrical self and collective values endows his love poetry with lasting humanistic significance and affirms its important position in the development of Vietnamese literature in both wartime and peacetime.
